Latex and Food Allergies?

I'm allergic to latex and i heard that there are related food allergies. Im also allergic to bananas, could that be related? and do you know if this is true or what other foods i may be allergic to?Latex and Food Allergies?
It is correct that latex allergies have other related food allergies and these are picked up on as ';red flag foods'; pointing to the possibility of latex problems. The foods do not contain latex, but their sap is similar in some way.





These include;


Tropical fruits: banana, pawpaw, mango, pineapple.


Avocado


Kiwi fruit.


there are others as well, depending on what source you find.





It is VITALLY important that you let any health carer know about latex allergy and especially if you are going into hospital for surgery.


Make sure it is part of your information given when booking into hospital from the Doctor's rooms. And clearly marked on your admission papers!





It will then be tagged as latex allergy on the Operating theatre list and the theatre will be prepared accordingly, making sure there is no latex in the theatre. What cant be removed is carefully covered with plastic and sealed. Synthetic gloves are used for surgery and any other work in the theatre.


Usually latex patients are put at the very front of that theatre's list, or at the end, after the theatre has been cleaned and rested for a while. Latex allergy patients are tagged with latex free allergy hats, signs on their bed end and when in recovery are set apart from the other patients to avoid latex contamination.





Yes, its a huge deal in theatre and a big fuss is made if theatre is notified late!!Latex and Food Allergies?
there is banana in some latex products and if you are allergic to bananas you are most likely going to have a reaction to some latexes (ie rubber gloves at the dentist - because the latex is inside your mouth rather than just on your hands)
No it's related in that latex comes from trees (aka a plant, aka a food)





Whereas other things come from synthetic plastic, latex is a rubber and it's a natural product like food.
